TRUE NORTH!
Jesus is the ultimate compass in life’s storms!
We will take your kids on the ultimate Alaskan adventure where the northern lights shine over majestic mountains, racing rivers, and sparkling glaciers. As they trek the tundra, they’ll discover how easy it is to lose sight of what’s true in our wild world today. Guiding them towards Jesus, True North VBS reveals that He is a faithful friend we can always trust. He's our True North!

Frequently Asked Questions

How is VBS structured, and what activities are included?
Each day begins and ends with an exciting large group time filled with music, skits, and fun! Throughout the morning, kids rotate through smaller group stations where they’ll explore science experiments, enjoy snacks, play games during outdoor recreation (weather permitting), dive into interactive Bible story adventures, and learn the daily memory verse in a creative way through “Sticky Scripture.” We wrap up with large group again to review the day’s big ideas and celebrate what we've learned.
What does my child need to wear or bring?
Please have your child wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement and outdoor play, such as shorts and T-shirts, and closed-toe tennis shoes every day.
Can my child be in a group with a friend?
We encourage children to invite friends! While we will do our best to group friends together, please understand that if there is a significant age difference, we may not be able to place them in the same group.
Will there be any outdoor activities at VBS?
Yes, weather permitting. Recreation time is planned to take place outside for about 15–20 minutes. We’ll make sure kids stay safe and comfortable with water breaks and shaded areas as needed. Some activities may include water play, but children should not get fully soaked during these events.
Will there be someone to help my child if he/she gets overwhelmed/overstimulated?
We do our best to care for each child with compassion and understanding. We know that VBS can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially for younger children or those with sensory sensitivities. If a child becomes overstimulated, we will gently redirect them, offering calm, clear choices and encouragement to help them regulate their emotions and body.
When needed, we’ll provide a quiet, calming space and comforting items to help them reset. A leader or teen helper will stay with your child, offering one-on-one support until they are ready to return to their group. If a child continues to struggle or needs additional support, we may contact a parent or caregiver. This is always a last resort and rarely necessary, but it helps ensure every child has the best chance at a successful and positive experience.

What if my child needs medication while at VBS?
Please contact Jenn at jenn@troymc.org to discuss any specific medical needs before VBS begins.
What can I expect each morning at drop off?
Families should park in the back lot and enter through the double glass doors of the Family Life Center. Greeters will be available to help guide you. If your child is pre-registered, Pre-K children will be dropped off in the Pre-K wing. Elementary-aged children will meet their small group leaders in the Family Life Center (FLC) or nearby classrooms (final locations will be shared closer to the event).
We understand that drop-off can be difficult, especially for younger children who may have a hard time separating from their caregivers. A quick, confident goodbye works best—hug your child once, offer encouragement, and then walk away. We've found that lingering goodbyes often make it harder for kids to settle in.
Our team will be ready to support your child and help them feel safe and welcome right from the start. Please know we will not allow a child to remain in distress for longer than 5–10 minutes. If a child is unable to calm down with our support, we will contact you to work together on the best next step.

What can I expect each afternoon at pick up?
To ensure safety, you will need to present your child’s security tag at pick-up. We appreciate your patience as we work to make dismissal smooth and secure. We understand that if you have multiple children, it can feel a little chaotic, but please start by picking up your youngest child first. This helps us keep the process organized and ensures each child is safely returned to their caregiver.
If I need to pick up my child earlier than dismissal, how can I do this?
Please inform the registration table workers at drop-off and also notify your child’s group leader.
Where can I find information about the daily snack?
The snack menu will be posted in your registration packet that you will receive on the first day, at the door, and the registration table. It will also be shared here a few weeks before VBS begins once it is finalized.
If my child prefers a different snack, can I send one from home?
Unless your child has an allergy, we ask that you not send a separate snack. If you do need to send an alternate snack, please ensure it is peanut/nut-free and notify your child’s group leader during drop-off.
What is the missions offering for?
This year, we are collecting offerings to support Safe Families, an organization that helps children and families in crisis. To learn more about this amazing organization, please visit metroeast.safe-families.org
