Our Story

A history of inviting people on a journey with Jesus

Our story began in 1843.

Circuit riders, part-time pastors, and student pastors from McKendree College were the first to serve Troy United Methodist Church. The building at South Main Street in Troy was built in 1870 and is now occupied by Troy Christian Church. Famed Illinois Circuit Rider, Rev. Peter Cartwright, dedicated the historic building.

As the congregation continued to expand, Troy UMC outgrew the Main Street building. In 1982, Troy UMC broke ground on the current location and completed construction of the sanctuary and original building in 1983.

In 1988, Rev. Dennis Price was appointed Senior Pastor and served the church for nearly 30 years. Troy UMC grew rapidly during Rev. Price’s tenure, making in necessary to add a new classroom space, the Family Life Center, and the 15 adjoining acres of land.

Rev. Dr. Andy Adams joined the church family as Senior Pastor in 2017. To date, Troy United Methodist Church is the largest United Methodist Church in Madison County.
