FEAR NOT
Two-Week Sermon Series

During the month of May we have been learning about one of the greatest aspects of the Christian life: namely, our relationship with God through prayer and the power we receive from daily seeking to sit in his presence. Oswald Chamber, who is best known for the classic devotional “My Utmost for His Highest”, is quoted as saying “Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.” This work is a calling placed on all of our lives, to pursue a relationship with God. As we live into this calling, we have a real enemy whose mission is to do anything to break our connection and commitment to Christ. Scripture tells us that Satan is a thief who comes to “steal, kill and destroy,” and because of this truth we are fighting a spiritual battle everyday whether we recognize it or not!

Have you ever wondered why life is so hard? Why do you feel anxious, worried, unable to concentrate, overcome with the weight of the world and not know why? What if the answer was that the world, your own thoughts, and the pursuit of the devil to destroy you often centers around one four-letter word? Now, there are a LOT of bad four-letter words out there, but I’m talking about the word FEAR. Fear is defined as “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.” When you read the definition, you might think to yourself, “That doesn’t sound all that bad.” But the reality is, fear plays a role in our daily decisions more than we would like to admit or more than we might realize. For two weeks we are going to explore what the biblical truth is about fear and what God commands us to do to fight against this four-letter foe as we continue to journey with Jesus. Is it possible to defeat fear? Let’s find out together!
